KILIMPOMBO has been established in memory of Michael Mpombo, the inspirational founder of the Kili Centre for Orphans and Street Children based in Moshi, Tanzania. Michael believed passionately in the transformative power of education, often quoting the phrase, “Education will set you free.”

Michael had a clear vision. Education for every orphaned child, along with community outreach programs that kept children with their families, supporting them with health and education (school fees, books and uniforms). He further advocated all children, including girls, received secondary education. The centre also supported children wishing to pursue university education.

Despite his complex and challenging background, Michael overcame numerous obstacles to earn his education, going on to receive an MBA. He established the Kili Centre as an independent, non-religious-affiliated organisation. His passing in 2015 was a profound loss, and KILIMPOMBO is dedicated to continuing his invaluable work.
